Following is the story of My Girl, Lainey Bug, a.k.a. Bug. Her photo shoots can be found below this text. This group is not completely loaded. There are more photo shoots of Bug to come.

My instructor at the grooming school in Phoenix, Arizona, had a little Shih Tzu named Kayla Bug. Bug and I became quite good friends. I realized that I really liked the breed.

Bug had a litter of puppies, and I wanted one; but they were all promised. My instructor said she would breed Bug again. We were moving back to Illinois soon, but I was going to fly back to Phoenix to get a puppy from her.

Time went by. I bought my building, and my shop was about done. I hadn’t heard anything from my instructor about a pending litter. I wanted a Shih Tzu as my shop dog. Many groomers in Arizona had small breed dogs to greet their clients, and I liked the idea.

When I heard there was a litter of Shih Tzu puppies here in town, I went to see them. It was quite a large litter, and had been whelped on October 24,2006. The red and white puppies were the ones I was interested in, but they were promised. The rest of the puppies were silver brindle and white. I decided I’d get a female, so to get a better look at the girls, the owner and I took the red and white puppies out of the whelping area. We also removed the remaining boy puppies.

On inspection, the girl puppies were quite busy playing together. All of a sudden one broke from the group and came wobbling over to the edge of the box to me. She reached up, put her paws on the top of the whelping box, looked right at me and barked. I picked her up, and she was so cute with very nice markings. She was a chunky little fluff ball with bright eyes and a soft coat, and she was very interested in me. I said, “This little girl has picked me,” and that’s how it was.

Since I wasn’t able to get one of Bug’s puppies, I named my puppy after her. Elaine is my middle name. Lainey Bug was what my father called me when I was a little girl. That seemed like the perfect name for My Bug.

Bug became a member of the family on December 9, 2006. She was employed immediately as the shop dog at Beggin’ Fur A Brushin’ Dog Grooming, which opened on January 30, 2007. She greets every client with enthusiasm. And . . . I do believe Bug thinks she is the boss. She certainly likes to run things at work and at home. Why, Bug is even my alarm in the morning!

As Bug matured, she would sit on her hind legs and beg with her front paws. She is Beggin’s shop dog, so I couldn’t resist. I gave her the registered name of Beggin’s Little Beggar Bug.

Living with Cockers, I believe Bug thinks she is a Cocker. The poor girl has an identity crisis going on. LOL! She stands out in the pack for many reasons, but most of all because of her terrific Shih Tzu personality. The little dog is such a love bug, and she works very hard. Bug is truly My Girl.
