Following is the story of My Girl, Coral Grace. Her photo shoots can be found below this text.

For about three-years I have wanted a show quality red buff Cocker girl. Wherever I turned, I wasn’t finding what I wanted or the breeders that I knew weren’t producing any reds.

In 2011, I went to PetQuest, a grooming show in Wilmington, Ohio. I saw a beautiful red buff Cocker there. I asked who bred the dog. The breeder was none other than Janice Fehn. Janice is known as the owner of Sunshine Acres Cocker Spaniels. She’s a breeder, handler, Master groomer, grooming competition judge, educator, and author. I set about trying to find her contact information.

I’m a good detective, and soon found the information I needed. I emailed her, and she responded by telling me she had blacks at the time. She was going to breed her red bitch to Sunshine Acres Morgenstar, who is a multiple champion in conformation and agility, for a 2012 spring litter.

I’ll never forget the reply from Janice after I emailed her asking if the puppies had been whelped. She wrote, “. . . Yep..Saturday night. She had six.....1 buff boy, 1 black boy, 3 black girls....wait for it.......one RED girl!!!!!! . . . What a stroke of luck!!” I was elated, and couldn’t wait for the 8-weeks to pass so I could adopt my puppy.

I made the trip to Mount Gilead, Ohio on May 26, 2012. It was great meeting Janice, seeing all her dogs, visiting with her on her lovely patio, and meeting my little red girl. My puppy was a very good traveler on the long road home.

Since the puppy was red, I had been thinking of names referring to color long before she was conceived. I like names that are different, that you don’t hear often. I knew of dogs named Crimson, Scarlett, Sassafras, Penny, etc., but none had the name of Coral. My puppy was given the name of Coral. The problem was finding a middle name that I liked.

My friend, Jodi Grace Murphy, world famous competition groomer whom I greatly respect and adore, suggested the name of Grace. I had already named My Clairee Kayte after one of her competition Cockers, so why not name my puppy after Jodi. Viola, Coral Grace! Coral's AKC registered name is Sunshine Acres Coral Starla. Be sure and view her Congratulations Coral! photo shoot below. You won't want to miss it! By the way, Jodi has met her namesake.

Janice wanted to co-own Coral, and I show her. I have decided not to show her. I don’t have the time to dedicate to a show career for her. If I did show her, it would be difficult against professional handlers. Like Janice says, she has a hard topline and she has an attitude to burn. I know Coral would be great in the ring. One can dream. I won’t show her, but I’ll show her off like I do the rest of My Girls.

Enjoy Coral’s photo shoots. There will be more shoots added as she matures. Watch her grow. She’s a doll pup, and that’s why she’s My Girl.
